Race Course

The first ever Triple L Triathlon is a sprint distance triathlon: 800 meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run. Racers swim in the Gunpowder River at the beautiful Gunpowder Falls State Park Hammerman Area.


The bike and run courses are along scenic roads in the park and nearby neighborhoods.

Celebrity Speaker - Dr. Steve Jonas

On Saturday (Aug 21, 2004) Dr. Steve Jonas will talk at 4pm at packet pick-up in the Best Western hotel on O'Donnel Street. Dr. Jonas' will talk about How to Have Fun at Your First Triathlon - a great way to gear up for the race.

Dr. Steve Jonas, a Professor of Preventive Medicine at the of Stony Brook University (NY) School of Medicine, is, in the spring of 2004, starting his 22nd season of multi-sport racing. In his first 21, he did 91 triathlons and 54 duathlons, from sprints to the ironman distance. At the 2003 USA-Triathlon Age-Group Nationals he qualified as a member of Team USA for the 2004 Age-Group World Championships held in Madeira Island, Portugal in May 2004.

He is the author of Triathloning for Ordinary Mortals (New York: WW Norton, Revised edition, 1999; 20th anniversary 2nd edition scheduled for publication in 2006). This book has sold over 40,000 copies. He also wrote The Essential Triathlete (New York: Lyons and Burford, 1996, now Globe-Pequot).

"The other Dr. J." has been a contributor to a number of triathlon periodicals over the years. Currently he is a Staff Writer for the magazine americanTRI. He is Editor-in-Chief of the American Medical Athletic Association Journal and a member of the Editorial Board of the ACSM's Health and Fitness Journal. He is also an Associate Editor of Preventive Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Public Health Association. He has written and co-written ten books on exercise and fitness, weight management, and wellness, for both the academic and the lay audiences. He is also a certified professional ski instructor.

Free Injury Prevention Clinics

Registered racers can attend free injury prevention clinics run by physical therapists from The Center for Integrated Manual Therapies, LLC. Learn stretching exercises and have your swimming, cycling, and/or running technique and position evaluated and fine-tuned. Dates and locations will be announced via email.

From I-95 take exit 67A, Rt 48 east (White Marsh Blvd). Follow Rt 43 to Rt 40 east. Turn right at the first light onto Ebenezer Rd. Follow Ebenezer Rd for 4.5 miles; the park entrance is on the left. You can check out a MapBlast of the directions, or you can use the map below.
